Join the NRA for free.

Go to the bottom of the page and see where you can join for free/trial membership

NRA now offering FREE "Bonus" memberships!

If you're not yet a member of the NRA, or if you have friends, family, or children who haven't joined yet, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get memberships at no cost.

No offense but why? They helped get the assault weapons ban passed by compromising their position.

No thanks

The NRA was instrumental in getting the NFA '34, GCA '68, the machinegun ban in '86, the AWB, and their greatest achievement, NICS, passed.

Why support the enemy even if it is for 'free'?

Re: Join the NRA for free.

The NRA is responsible for the failure of Congress to pass the second AWB in 2004. The massive number of NRA members/voters is enough to scare a handful congressional members into voting against gun control, which was just enough in 2004. The NRA also had the courts issue an injunction against the New Orleans Katrina gun confiscation the day after it started.

If you want to take a principled stand against the NRA, fine. Join the GOA. But don't think that the cause of gun rights is moved forward in America by your refusal to add one more person to the NRA's membership count.

This is how politics works. The AARP, NEA, unions, NRA, etc. use the numbers of their members to try to get members of congress to vote one way or the other. This is why the NRA is apparently offering free memberships. It's better to say "we have 8M members nationally, 20K in your district alone" than to say "we have 4M members nationally, 10K in your district alone."

If each of the 90M gun owners in America was a member of the NRA, do you think we would even bother discussing crap like the AWB or the Brady Bill?

What do you base that on the NRA newsletter?

90% of the population is against these bailouts and they do them anyway.

The second part of your statement is true.....but then again, the majority of the public wanted the AWB. If anything, this shows the power of institutional lobbying (which may be a good or a bad thing, it's usually a bad thing).

But everyone agrees that the NRA is responsible for the AWB's failure in 2004, whether on the left or on the right.

A much more likely reason for free memberships is so that they can pad their Spam lists.

Best to join the NRA for free and give a little extra to GOA.

Re: Join the NRA for free.

This must be the final drive before they hand over the list to the feds, they figure free memberships will increase membership, hell maybe the feds are paying per member on the list!

Make sure you tell them where you "store" your guns when not in use so they don't have to ransack the whole house.

So in your opinion this very minor detail negates the NRA's efforts to get NFA '34, GCA '68, the machinegun ban, and NICS passed, right?

Go ahead, keep drinking the koolaid if it makes you feel better about yourself.

The fact remains that the NRA's involvement was essential in getting an absolute right transformed into a privilege where one has to ask permission and get approved (NICS) before one can take possession. Dialectics at its finest.

And an FYI, I know folks who have nothing in their background which would prevent them from owning guns, yet they've still been denied by NICS.

Good thing or bad thing, I am not a member of the NRA, but my dog now has a 1 year free membership?

My dog is also a Reward Zone Silver member at Best Buy now.

Welcome to GIM there Snake Plissken.

Doubt if you will find to many NRA supporters here. We are a little more freedom minded here.

Yes but what do THEY get out of it?

I don't need to be a member of an Association to have a rifle.
